Biography:
Country and bluegrass act Foxglove (not to be confused with other bands of the same name) featured core members Joe Burkholder (banjo, guitar, electric bass, vocals), George Larsson (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Tony Michael (fiddle, mandolin, vocals), and George Wilson (acoustic bass, dobro, vocals). Their independently produced LP For Your Love was recorded at Century 21 Studios in Winnipeg between January 15 and May 15, 1980, with engineering by Harold Taylor and production by George Larsson and Duck Donald.
Joining the group on the album were a number of local guests: Ron Halldorson (pedal steel), Dave Cramer (harmonica), Duck Donald (mandolin), percussionists Gordon Osland (of Mood Jga Jga, Les Q, Crowcuss, Graham Shaw) and Ian Haslen, and backing vocalists Ilena Greenberg and Tusia Kozub.
Among the album’s standout moments are the jaunty “Carolina In The Pines,” a cover of Michael Martin Murphey’s best-known composition; the traditional number “Roll On Muddy River”; and the heartfelt “Sweet Little Sister,” written by Canadian singer-songwriter John Lyle.
