Northern Ontario Axemen

42 slabs of rare, raw Northern Ontario rock — loud and unfiltered. From the land of lakes, mines, and legends, this playlist is a high-octane ride through the backroads and barrooms of Ontario’s north, where bands carved out their own scene far from the big-city spotlight.

These artists didn’t just play music — they lived it, hauling gear through snowstorms, filling community halls, and cutting tracks that echoed across frozen landscapes and smoky venues. Featuring hidden gems, forgotten 45s, and cult classics, Northern Ontario Axemen celebrates the DIY grit and hometown glory of bands who made it happen with heart, hustle, and some damn good tunes.

From Sudbury to Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay to North Bay, Timmins to Red Lake, these axemen lit up the stage and left their mark on Canadian music history. So crank it up — this is the soundtrack of the north: loud, proud, and built to last.
