Information/Write-up
Columbia Records proudly presents the inimitable piano styling of Bill Butler from the Pump Room at the Lord Simcoe Hotel.
Born in Toronto some thirty-three years ago, this talented young Canadian has made an indelible mark for himself among audiences throughout Canada and America who acclaim from both personal appearances and television and radio. Stars such as Arthur Godfrey and Dave Garroway show his popularity.
The strong blend of classical and music background at the age of six at the Toronto Conservatory of Music, Bill turned to the life of a working musician at twenty. As arranger for Toronto’s top orchestras and radio programs, he played and made his mark.
In the early fifties Bill formed his own group and after a highly successful five-year engagement at Toronto’s Club One-Two was asked to form and lead the orchestra for the opening of the Lord Simcoe Hotel’s Pump Room. His unique artistry immediately won him acclaim and many admirers in the United States.
Bill, as he readily admits, is partial to show tunes, mood music and love ballads — all of which are featured on this Columbia album, his first for the label. In compiling the program for this album Bill has chosen the numbers you will find among the best loved and it is hoped that you will find one or more of them to become an album favourite of yours.
