Information/Write-up

Gerry Reeves was born Gerald Formanger in Port au Port, Newfoundland in 1939 in Port au Port, Newfoundland . He started his musical career playing rhythm guitar while his Dad played accordion at local dances, on T.V. and radio shows. At the age of 17 he joined his first group in Calgary as a lead guitarist...Gerry has become known across Canada as one of the best country take-off guitars in Canada today. Jennie Reeves is the wife of Gerry. Gerry died in 2001.

Gerry Formanger was born in a small coastal town on Port-Au-Port Peninsula, on the west coast of Newfoundland. Gerry started in music at the early age of nine and by the time he was twelve, he was playing local dances and garden parties with his dad and his uncles. Gerry joined the Canadian Armed Forces at seventeen years of age, and moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he joined his first rock and roll band, known as "The Hot Guitars". Leaving Calgary he moved to Toronto and started a career in country music. He has worked many of Toronto's top spots for country music; the Horseshoe Tavern back in the sixties doing back-up for Nashville's top stars. He also played the Adam's Rib, the El Condor Supper Club, Our Place Tavern, just to mention a few. Gerry now has his own band, known as "Side-By-Each" which has been well received by his fans everywhere he plays.

The selections on this album, all of which have been composed by Gerry, indicate a lot of feeling for his home province of Newfoundland. Gerry writes about his love of his province, his friends and the people and places for which he has fond memories. Some day Gerry plans to move back to Newfoundland. He wants to visit every town and village in that province and write about all of them.

His favourite songwriter is Roy Payne. Gerry says Roy has "soul heart", and that's what it takes to write a good song, and also Roy is one hell of a fine guy.

Gerry is known as one of Canada's top guitarists; he also plays accordion, fiddle, banjo, and 12-string guitar. You will enjoy the selections on this album and I'm sure that you will agree that this is the best album Gerry has ever done.
