Golden Decade Spotlight: Mantra - Stay b/w San Francisco Morning
A fleeting ember in the Canadian psych-folk underground, Montreal’s Mantra flickered briefly in 1970 with this solitary 45 on the elusive M.M. & C. label—an imprint otherwise known for fiddle reels and folkloric chanson, not fragile, introspective folk-psych.

Drawn directly from their lone self-titled LP, the single (M.M. & C. 3604) was issued in at least two known variants—blue and yellow label pressings. “Stay” b/w “San Francisco Morning” endures as a ghostly transmission from Quebec’s quieter corners, where melody outshone mythology and introspection spoke louder than distortion.
