Born in Perth, Scotland, Vanda King came to Canada at eight and was cutting rock 'n' roll records for Glory in New York by the age of fourteen. She sang on CBC's Saturday Date with Billy O'Connor and was a regular in the Nightcap cast alongside Billy Van. She was also the first Diamond Lil at Toronto's Skyline Hotel, a role that became her own CTV series, Diamond Lil's, in 1969. By 1972 she had moved on to pop, jazz and nightclub standards, backed by some of Toronto's best players.
