The Effects of Acculturation on Eskimo Music of Cumberland Peninsula documents Inuit musical life in Pangnirtung through field recordings made by ethnomusicologist Maija M. Lutz during her 1973–74 research in the community. The recordings preserve traditional songs, throat singing, dance music and other forms of musical expression, alongside music reflecting the social and cultural changes taking place in Pangnirtung.
Issued by the National Museum of Man as part of its Mercury Series, the 1974 release accompanied Lutz’s study of music on Cumberland Peninsula and the ways Inuit musical traditions were being maintained, adapted and reshaped through contact with outside influences. Performers include Jim Kilabuk, Meeka Angnakak, Elisapee Isuglutak, Malaya Nauyuk, Aksayuk Etuangut and Peterosee Kakkik.
