Produced in L.A. studio One Step Up, Goodnight L.A. caught the attention of Canada's programmers netting hundreds of stations' airplay.
Because of that airplay, the single sold well garnering the attention of many sub-distributors (which Heart Records would later rely on in their own distribution network).

Notice the MAPL logo on the label: This was a prerequisite of the Canadian industry at the time (though not mandatory), which gave programmers the degree of 'Canadian Content' which governed how much of the record was constituted as 'Canadian'. (M represented the music was Canadian, A was that the artist was Canadian, P was that it was produced in Canada and L was for Canadian lyrics).
