Sandwiched in the middle of this largely forgettable 2LP set of mostly adult contemporary musak from 1987 is an early hidden gem of Canadiana, sung by one of Canada's best folk rock bands of the 1980's-1990's. The track "People of the Frozen North" never appeared on any SOTW album or compilation.
Liner notes:
Spirit of the West is three guys from Vancouver and one from Calgary. The group is gaining a wider audience through their appearances at folk festivals and clubs around the country. "People of the Frozen North" is an affectionate jab at the myth of Canada that is all too frequently perpetrated by our neighbours to the south.
Produced in Calgary by Les Siemieniuk
Engineered by Bob Dole
