Information/Write-up

Research by Nicole Beaudry
This record, the first to be exclusively devoted to Northern Quebec Inuit music and games, offers as complete a sampling as possible of the different traditional genres of this area.

It was prepared by Nicole Beaudry from recordings made in Kuujjuaq (Fort-Chimo), Ivujivik and Kangirsuk (Payne Bay) by Nicole Beaudry, Charles Boiles and Denise Harvey, members of the Groupe de Recherches en Semiologie Musicale de I'Universite de Montreal (director: Jean-Jacques Nattiez). Field trips (1974-1980) were funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, the University of Montreal and the Saidye Bronfman Foundation. The syllable text in inuktitutwas prepared by the translation department of the Quebec Ministry of Communications.

We are grateful for the patience and generosity of the Inuit who have participated in the research and have accepted to be part of this record.
