Information/Write-up
This appropriately entitled album is, in a sense, free of time and space. The lover knows it has no boundary, and the places one can journey are as endless as the infinity of life. Bill Butler, included in this review, picks up the thread of association, warmth, and intimacy—suggests and stimulates the recollection of moments treasured most.
The skilled fingers of Bill Butler make the piano speak alluringly and lingeringly in the dialects understood by the heart. Born in Toronto, Ontario, November 23rd, 1927, Bill Butler studied music at the Toronto Conservatory of Music. Here he concentrated on piano, from the age of seven to the age of harmony and theory during the years of the study of harmony and theory until he was sixteen. He also devoted three years to arranging. After he became interested in all types of music, he formed a dance band, and worked with Canada’s top modern bands as pianist and arranger. He was also in charge of the score for several radio shows and appeared as soloist for a year on the Canadian Wrigley Gum Show.
Five years ago he decided to specialize with small groups and accompanied such notables as the Ink Spots, Billie Holiday, Tex Morton, and others. He played at the Club Bluenote in Toronto, where he also undertook the musical direction of the show.
Besides personal appearances and C.B.C. Television shows, Bill has been active on many radio programs. Music for the Broadway stage and background music for motion pictures are also among his credits. Here, indeed, is a representative of professional and highly proficient talent, melodic with a personalized and subtle persuasive touch.
