Mark Brodie

Mark Brodie is a Canadian guitarist and composer whose reverb-soaked riffs and high-energy performances have made him a cornerstone of modern surf music. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Brodie has been a driving force in keeping instrumental surf rock alive and thriving, both as a solo artist and through his work with several celebrated bands.

Brodie first made waves with Mark Brodie & The Beaver Patrol, a group known for its raw, vintage surf sound infused with humor and high-octane energy. Their cult-favorite album The Shores of Hell (1996) remains a standout in the Canadian surf scene, featuring tightly wound guitar lines and classic surf rhythms that nod to legends like Dick Dale and The Ventures while carving out a sound all their own.

He continued his sonic explorations with The Metalunas, pushing the surf genre into new territory with a sharper, more aggressive edge. Brodie’s signature guitar tone and fearless approach to songwriting also powered the horror-surf fusion of The Monster Stalkers, a project blending retro sci-fi vibes with spooky, surf-fueled instrumentals.

In Mark Brodie & The Saboteurs, he embraced spy-themed and espionage-inspired surf rock, most notably on the album Espionage Garage, which showcased his versatility and knack for cinematic soundscapes. Across all his projects, Brodie has remained committed to analog tones and live instrumentation, eschewing gimmicks in favor of pure, unfiltered surf music energy.

Mark Brodie’s prolific output, fierce guitar chops, and dedication to surf culture have earned him a loyal following worldwide, and his influence continues to ripple through the global surf music community. Whether tearing up clubs or laying down tracks in the studio, Brodie plays every note with passion, precision, and a deep respect for the genre’s roots.
