Origin: Sherbrooke, Québec, 🇨🇦
Biography:

Virginie B emerged in the mid-2010s as one of Montréal’s most quietly distinctive new artists, debuting in 2016 with her first album People With Problems — a self-released project that revealed a young songwriter already in full command of her emotional vocabulary. Intimate, diaristic, and sonically unvarnished, the album introduced her as a storyteller rooted in vulnerability, observation, and a soft-edged vocal presence that would become central to her identity. People With Problems set the thematic foundation for all that followed: music as emotional transparency, production as atmosphere, and melody as a form of confession.

Across the late 2010s and early 2020s, Virginie evolved from an emerging indie songwriter into a multidimensional artist—composer, producer, arranger, and performer—shaping a body of work that blends dream-pop, modern R&B, synth-pop, and poetic chanson. Her writing deepened, her production expanded, and her creative partnerships strengthened, particularly with producer-instrumentalist Louis Jeay-Beaulieu, whose collaboration became a defining force in her sonic world. Together they developed arrangements built on warm synthesizers, brushed drum machines, hypnotic bass lines, and harmonies layered with painterly precision.

By the time she released a series of acclaimed singles and EPs between 2021 and 2024, her sound had crystallized into something unmistakable: airy yet grounded, soft yet assertively modern. Songs became spaces—carefully built rooms of breathy vocals, delicate textures, and emotional clarity.

Her 2023 single “RIVIÈRE” marked a major creative milestone. Influenced by Minnie Riperton, Raveena, and Lykke Li, the track pairs ethereal production with lyrics exploring autonomy, embodiment, and the unstoppable forces of nature. It is both a homage and a personal manifesto, showing Virginie at her most thematically sharp and sonically refined.

In 2024 she continued expanding her artistic universe, strengthening her ties with Montréal’s creative community—including arrangers, illustrators, producers, and art directors—while deepening her own role as a visual and conceptual architect of her work. Each release solidified her position as a rising figure in Québec’s modern pop landscape, known for the emotional warmth of her voice, the intimacy of her narratives, and the atmospheric depth of her production.

What began with People With Problems in 2016 has grown into one of the most compelling artistic evolutions in contemporary francophone music. Still early in her career yet already remarkably coherent in vision, Virginie B continues to craft a world of softness, resilience, and luminous emotional detail—one song at a time.
