Liner notes
This collection of the Best Of Gary Buck spans a career of fourteen years as a country music headliner. Throughout that career in every performance, be it in a recording studio, on stage or on TV, Gary is the kind of entertainer who gives every ounce of his considerable ability.
Over the years he has had so many, and such varied commitments to all phases of the modern music industry that there haven’t been anything like enough opportunities for this multi-talented individual to concentrate completely on the performing art. Composing songs, producing records, publishing music, managing and booking other artists have all made heavy demands on the time and effort of the former Sault Ste. Marie deejay. His track record is ample testimony to the advanced degree of success that Gary has achieved in all of these related fields.
Today he is every inch the multi-faceted, top executive, President of his own firm, Broadland Music. But above all else Gary Buck is a performer. With this collection of his greatest hits, his first-ever such album, comes a new emphasis, a new determination on his part to develop Gary Buck the artist.
From his first chart breakthrough, “Happy To Be Unhappy” (seventeen weeks on the Billboard country charts in 1963, and until now close to a collector’s item) to his more recent material such as “Victims” and “Don’t The Goodtimes Make It All Worthwhile”, this is Buck the performer at his best, and there are no better. There are many pleasant musical memories here from a carefully compiled collection of career highlights that parallels the growth in popularity of country music in North America. Also worthy of note in this brief preview of a pleasurable performance are: “Pokarekare Ana” (with Eddie Low) and the Tyson classic, “Summer Wages”. Listen now, for sure you are about to get your “Buck’s” worth, and then some.
