‘Hey Miss Maybe’ was Greg Mittler’s debut single, issued in Canada in 1973 on the small Up Records imprint. The record appears to have been the label’s only release and was distributed by Avenue of America Recording Limited. The single received Canadian radio airplay and entered the RPM 100 Singles chart in spring 1973.
The promotional sleeve presents the two-song release simply, listing ‘Hey Miss Maybe’ and ‘I Will Take You Home’ as written and performed by Greg Mittler. Copies with the scarce tri-panel promotional sleeve are of particular interest to collectors.
Mittler later remained active as a Toronto-based singer/songwriter and lyricist. In 1976, his song ‘Gypsy Saviour’ was recorded by Dickson Bonfield for the album Portage, recorded in Toronto at Zaza Sound Productions. He continued performing in Toronto bars and in the Eastern Townships of Quebec through the 1980s before moving away from regular performance and releases in the 1990s, while continuing to write music.
