Information/Write-up

Chemainus is an old mill town on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. In 1980 the Town Fathers gathered and decided to commission well known artists to paint murals on the buildings depicting the history of the area which has made Chemainus an internationally known tourist destination.

Dawn Snell came from Calgary, Alberta in 1983 and was enchanted with the Crofton-Chemainus Valley. Singing has always been a part of Dawn’s life. I’m glad she was able to fulfill a wish here at Melodeon Studios in memory of her friend, Arthur Dawe who passed away Christmas ’91. Here is her gift for your Christmas Spirit.

Merry Christmas

god bless !

Liner Notes
Dedicated to the Memory of Arthur Dawe who passed away Christmas 1991

Art came to Chemainus in 1985, where he purchased a broken down vacant building which had been a General Store, brought it back to life and filled it with his collection of General Store Memorabilia. Much of this collection can now be viewed in the Victoria Provincial Museum. Art was best known for his wonderful sense of humor and his love and talent for re-creating the past.

By the waterwheel, in the park, through the arch and down the path to Maple Street, walks the shadow of a man who used to be. The stores are gaily lit on Maple Street, a street which stretches to the sea, a street in an old town come alive because of a Man who used to be …
Dawn.
