Information/Write-up

Sarah Botelho – ‘Astronaut’

Sarah has just finished her second year at Western University and has won several competitions including CHRW’s Sing Off (January 2014) and Western Chinese Students’ Association’s “Western Voice” in 2013. She draws her influences from various songwriters and the vocal styles of Florence Welch. We’re very excited to recording her first official debut EP!

B Kelly – ‘Right Now’

B Kelly is a Hip Hop artist who spent his early years in Nashville. He has now moved back to London and focuses his time on creating raps. With his fast and hard-hitting lines, B Kelly raps about his experiences inside and out of the studio.

Olivia and the Creepy Crawlies – ‘Gatsby’

Olivia & The Creepy Crawlies is a fun, upbeat folk band that has recently won “Last Band Standing” at Fanshawe College this year. This 6-piece band writes quirky songs that covers many topics ranging from love to your basic kitchen utensils!

Alyeus – ‘The Archetype’

This progressive rock band, pronounced “AH-LIE-US”, draws their influences from bands such as Tool, Mastodon, and Thrice. They’ve released their latest album, Forty Days at Sea, which is a trilogy concept album that tells a story of war, a struggle for existence, and a well-kept secret.

Gareth Bush – ‘Shake Me Down’

Gareth Bush has over 800,000 views on YouTube and was featured on TV, radio, and as the “Web Celeb of the Week” by Z100. He has now used his acoustic guitar and smooth vocals to record a few originals at CHRW’s new production studio. Keep an ear out for upcoming releases from this future star!

The Lifers – ‘Lego’

A folk duo made of two sisters, Liv (a current student at Western University) and Anita Cazzola. Their songs are rooted in beautiful, honest and compelling lyrics. The Lifers was recently featured on Reaney’s Pick from the London Free Press and will have more releases to come soon!

Blake William Patrick – ‘Mountain Girl’

CHRW’s Folk Off winner (November 2013) has recorded some of his first official releases with us in our new recording facilities! Blake has been playing music for over 10 years with a focus on original songwriting in the past year. His intricate guitar playing along with his vocals and lyrics make him an artist to look out for!

Abdulrahman Ali – ‘Hyert Alby’

Abdul is currently studying software engineering at Western University and has been playing the oud for almost 2 years. With a passion for playing and listening to classical Arabic music, Abdul brings a calm and soulful side to this compilation with his voice and oud.

Don’t Touch The Dancers – ‘Make Me Sick’

These punk rockers won CHRW’s Rock Off 2 (February 2014) and had some amazing songs to record with us! If you like the punk rock sound with distorted guitars, loud drums, and heavy vocals, Don’t Touch The Dancers is the band for you.

Lead by CHRW’s Sing Off winner (January 2014), Matt Badoe, The Bellows is a folk band consisting of talented musicians from Western University. Their blend of guitar, bass, drums, cello, melodica and cool harmonies will bring some new sounds to your ears.

Miles Xu – ‘Nothing Left’

Miles is currently a student at Western University and is the Co-director of the Singer’s Program at Chinese Perspectives (a radio show here at CHRW that airs every Monday night from 8-10PM). Not only does Miles play the acoustic guitar, but can sing in both Mandarin and Cantonese!

Clara Stegall – ‘Does She Know?’

A London born singer/songwriter who’s only 18 years old! Clara delivers a soulful and passionate sound beyond her years. For her latest project, she has formed a band with her sisters called Stegall, and will be releasing another solo project with songs recorded here at CHRW!

Notes
Special thanks to Derek Leung, Randy Rektor, Bob Breen, and Grant Stein.

With CHRW’s brand new production studios, we went straight to recording original songs from London bands and soloists.

Over the past 2 months, a team of 18 producers, technicians, and organizers have been working to record over 45 songs, and broadcast 6 bands live over the CHRW airwaves.

We would like to give thanks to the Community Radio Fund of Canada, University Students’ Council at the University of Western Ontario, and the community of London.
